Giving back and making a difference

This summer, more than 2,600 charities across Canada will be receiving cheques from TELUS on behalf of our team members, retirees, our dealers, and those who work at Blacks, Koodo and Caya who donated to charities in our annual Team TELUS Charitable Giving program.

Every year, program participants have a unique opportunity to support their communities and the causes that matter the most to them through the program.

From local organizations throughout the country such as the Union Gospel Mission to some of the larger, more widely known charities, including the Canadian Red Cross Society, the Salvation Army and the Canadian Cancer Society…these cheques represent our team member’s commitment to not only volunteering their time but also their financial resources to helping others.

I believe making a donation directly to a charitable organization is one of the most effective ways to make a difference in our communities. And I am proud to work for a company that supports me, and my colleagues, in making an even bigger impact with facilitating and matching our charitable donations.

Through our Team TELUS Charitable Giving program, TELUS matches donations made by program participants to eligible Canadian charities, up to a maximum of $2,500 per year per individual.

  • In 2013, TELUS and program participants donated $6.4 million dollars to more than 2,600 registered Canadian charities.

  • Since 2000, this annual workplace campaign has resulted in more than $70 million going to charitable organizations across Canada.

Every little bit counts

Terry Hickey, a member of our Burnaby team, believes every donation, no matter the amount, makes a difference. That’s why he participates in our TELUS Charitable Giving program every year.

“It is one of the easiest ways to donate money to a good cause. I am truly grateful that TELUS will match my donations and that they make it so easy to give where we live,” says Terry.

This year, Terry pledged his support to two organizations that resonate personally with him. The first is the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. With two young children of his own, he wants to help improve the lives of children facing health challenges. Terry is also supporting the Delta Hospice Society in honour of a friend and co-worker who recently lost a loved one.

“This program, and others like it, is one of the many reasons why I am proud to work here. Every donation counts and I always encourage other TELUS team members to participate in the program, even if they can only afford to donate a small amount.”

Giving back made easier

Like many of us, Sylvain Pelletier, a team member in Rimouski, Quebec works long hours and, with three very active children at home, his busy lifestyle leaves little time for volunteering. Taking part in our charitable giving program is a simple way for him to do his part and give back in his community.

“Team TELUS Charitable Giving is a way for me to convert a share of the time I spend working at TELUS into a donation that will benefit my favourite charitable organizations,” says Sylvain.

“And, TELUS matching my pledges, motivates me to donate even more! For every $20 pledge I make, TELUS contributes the same amount. That means I can make a bigger impact.”

Caring for our communities together

The Team TELUS Charitable Giving program is just one of the ways TELUS supports the communities where we live, work and serve. We believe building a future that is friendly for all Canadians, depends on all of us working together to give back and build stronger communities. Thank you to the many Canadians across the country who are also passionate about giving where they live and are joining us on our journey to make a difference.
