Now in its fourth year, the Five Hole for Food (FHFF) tour kicks off today in St. John’s, and we’re thrilled to be along again for the ride. It is quite simple, this July they are playing street hockey to raise food for food banks right across our great nation. Now in our third year as a sponsor, I’m happy to say that this is one partnership that continues to thrive. As both a fan and player of our country’s national pastime, I was personally eager for TELUS to get involved with an organization that leverages hockey for social change. Just ask the FHFF team, they’ll tell you – All you need is a hockey stick and a can of food, and you can help build stronger communities across Canada.
This small, dedicated group of Five Hole volunteers have really done an incredible job building awareness for this cause, and in such a short amount of time no less. So far, the tour’s already raised in excess of 200,000 pounds of food in support of local food banks in provinces coast-to-coast, and has grabbed support from the likes of Canadian celebs Trevor Linden, Jim Treliving and Bif Naked. Born from hockey fans hungry for change, this ambitious, non-profit org. is now a major player in helping combat hunger, a problem that affects 10.8 million Canadians every year.
So start practicing your slapshot, the FHFF tour’s coming to a city near you. Watch for TELUS prize pack giveaways in both Toronto (July 11) and Vancouver (July 20), and be sure to follow along online, with tweets, vids, pics and posts live from across Canada.
