Keeping families safe online with TELUS WISE

Canada has among the highest Internet usage rates in the world, and as a mother, I’m concerned about my children’s online safety. Everything from academics to socializing takes place online, and while technology has opened the door to enormous opportunities, it isn’t always used for the most productive purposes. TELUS is in the technology business and as such, we have made it our priority to help those who use our technology stay safe online.

We believe that one way to keep our families safe online is through education, so a year ago we launched TELUS WISE (Wise Internet and Smartphone Education) to our business customers. It was so successful, that today we are extending this program to all Canadian families – free of charge.

From cyberbullying to online fraud, TELUS WISE is our own industry-leading educational programme on Internet and smartphone safety that aims to keep our customers and their families safe while they browse the Web. By protecting what’s valuable to our customers – their families – TELUS WISE is one more way we are putting customers first and ensuring they get the most out of their TELUS technology.

TELUS WISE offers two unique ways to keep our customers safe while using the Internet or their smartphone:

The first is a program for parents and adults, which provides access to:

  • Seminars – TELUS WISE Ambassadors host one hour public seminars engaging participants in a discussion about online safety. These seminars are also available upon request for TELUS business customers, community investment partners, school PTA councils and community associations.
  • A WISE virtual communitywww.telus.com/wise is a secure web site that provides users with ongoing access to great resources, articles and training around Internet and smartphone safety and security for their families.
  • TELUS Learning Centres – Learning Specialists in over 225 of our exclusive TELUS locations, provide personalized, one-on-one guidance to customers on Internet and smartphone safety and security as a part of our Learning Centre program.

The second, TELUS WISE footprint, is an online digital citizenship program for kids ages eight through 18. This program helps Canadian children and teens learn how to become responsible digital citizens and keep their digital footprint clean. The program also provides a series of opportunities for kids to earn dollars for their school’s digital literacy programs while they learn.

Keeping my family safe online is a priority for me, and it’s also a huge challenge. TELUS WISE is one more way I can get involved – and get my kids involved – in making sure they understand the risks and the rewards of communicating online. With these great resources available to all Canadians, my hope is that we can create a meaningful dialogue with our customers about Internet and smartphone safety and give them the tools they need to protect themselves and their families while enjoying their TELUS technology. I encourage to you watch our TELUS WISE videos to learn more about this innovative program.

Stay safe,

Andrea
