I love trees! Is that an obvious statement for most of us? I don’t know. I DO know that a friend called me last weekend and said, “I heard about an old growth patch of trees in North Vancouver that I’ve never seen before. Join me for a trail run to find it?” We were at the trailhead within 20 minutes, ready to start our tree-searching adventure.
My love of trees (and the benefits they provide) is why I know the National Tree Day Challenge launching today is so cool. National Tree Day is September 25, 2013 and the idea is to rally Canadian communities, in partnership with Tree Canada, to plant 20,000 trees. That’s a lot of trees! Last year, the campaign resulted in 14,000 trees being planted. For 2013, TELUS has joined in the fun to help get the online community involved, with the goal of planting 5,000 trees via social media, helping reach that overall goal of 20,000 trees.
Here’s how you can plant your virtual tree:
- Visit NationalTreeDay.ca
- Register to virtually plant a tree. One real tree will be planted for every virtual tree (to a maximum of 5,000)
- A random draw will be held to select a winner of the $5,000 trip to the Fairmont Banff Springs!
Help spread the word! Let people know the National Tree Day Campaign has started and share the #NTDChallenge hashtag.
We have a good history
Since 1998, TELUS and Tree Canada have worked to plant a total of 411,067 trees across Canada. TELUS’ accumulated support to Tree Canada since 1998 reached $1,685,086 at the end of 2012. In 2012, TELUS provided $264,067 to Tree Canada for its 2013 / 2014 programs as part of our shared vision of growing better places to live and a total of 78,467 trees were planted in five regions across Canada as a result of TELUS’ support. In 2013, let’s celebrate even more!
Back to the run I mentioned above. We found what we were looking for. The reward is…Trees
