Today TELUS has been honoured as one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People. As one of the millennials here, I have the privilege of sharing an insider’s perspective of what makes TELUS such a great workplace for young people.
I could list numerous ways in which the TELUS team leads in Canada and globally including our employee engagement, our ground-breaking Work Styles program, environmental leadership, and the list goes on. In fact, the TELUS team has been so progressive in our culture that we recently launched the TELUS Transformation Office to offer consultancy based on the culture we have developed to assist organizations in the improvement of their culture and engagement.
TELUS creates this level of engagement and thought leadership by focusing a great deal of time and energy on leadership development. Several of our new grad programs create opportunities for new grads to face technology and business challenges with enough support to back them up but enough freedom to grow into our future leaders. I myself went through the Graduate Engineering Leadership Program when I joined TELUS. These programs are an invitation for young people to make a difference in our business and our team.
The thing that makes me most proud to be a team member is the daily invitation to make a difference. Our strategic intent is clear; “to unleash the power of the Internet to deliver the best solutions to Canadians at home, in the workplace and on the move.” My role in that may shift and evolve but I never have a doubt how my efforts are improving the lives of our customers as we deliver quality services. There’s nothing more engaging or rewarding in our work than realizing these outcomes.
What’s more, we don’t stop at our customers when seeking to improve lives around us. The team is passionately philanthropic, with a “We Give Where We Live” philosophy. Our annual TELUS Day of Giving sees our team members, retirees, families and friends rally nationally to serve the communities in our back yards.
TELUS is a top employer in Canada for young people because we are given the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our team members, our customers and our communities.
