Helping rebuild Calgary, even more beautiful than before

On July 4, I was thrilled to help unveil our spectacular new development, TELUS Sky, for our team members, the media and the community of Calgary. As a long-time Calgarian, I am incredibly excited about this $400 million investment, which will help revitalize the city’s downtown district following the devastating floods we experienced earlier this summer.

BIG_CALGARY_ELEVATION-webDesigned by internationally acclaimed Danish ‘starchitect’, Bjarke Ingels and Canadian architectural firm, Dialog, TELUS Sky will be a stunning addition to the Calgary skyline and provide a vibrant blend of much-needed commercial and retail space, as well as 341 rental units. Standing 221 metres tall, our 58-storey development will transform an entire city block on 7th Avenue and introduce a dynamic community of urban living, working and socializing.

In keeping with our passion for sustainable design and construction, TELUS Sky will be built to the LEED Platinum standard, the highest certification in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and showcase environmental and technological innovation in ways never before seen in Calgary. For example, our new building will use up to 80 per cent less energy than similar size developments and also support our Work Styles program with inspiring meeting spaces, private areas for more reflective work and world-leading communications technology.

I am particularly thrilled that TELUS Sky will also uphold our company’s rich legacy of fostering arts and culture in our local communities. Our beautiful tower will feature a 5,500 square foot exhibition space where citizens can view works of art that reflect our region’s cultural diversity and creativity. TELUS has already reached out to local artists and invited them create works that capture the heroic efforts of fellow Albertans during the June floods that we will display in our exhibition space. As a member of Mayor Naheed Nenshi’s Champions of the Arts Council, I am honoured to support this project and I look forward to working closely with the arts community to transform our vision into reality.
