Travel smart with your smartphone

Goodbye Polar Vortex, Hello Sunshine!

My Top 10 tips for travelling smart with your smartphone

This time next week I’ll be soaking up the sun in Miami (yes, be jealous).

I don’t know about you, but I’m done with this so-called Polar Vortex. It is not showing any signs of letting up so I don’t blame my fellow Canadians for getting away during March Break. In fact, 1 in 4 Canadians plan to escape winter by vacationing down south. Here’s another fun fact, did you know the United States, Mexico and Cuba are the top three most popular travel destinations for Canadians? Check out the full list on Stats Canada.

Being a smartphone junky myself, I know how important it is to stay connected with family and friends back home while travelling. I absolutely love to share oodles of pictures, videos and status updates with my social networks. Travelling smart with your smartphone is key to staying connected, so I’ve pulled together a Top 10 list of tips to help you do just that. Check it out below and feel free to share it with your friends and family, after all, #sharingiscaring! Do you have any other tips for travelling smart with your smartphone?

In the Top 10 list, I mention travel passes which I highly recommend. TELUS enhanced its US, Mexico and Caribbean travel passes last fall and we’ve recently introduced new Cuba travel passes for TELUS customers. What’s more, TELUS travel passes provide a savings of 50 to 90 per cent off regular pay-per-use rates, and offer more options at lower prices. For example, customers travelling to Cuba can get 50 text messages, 50 minutes of voice and 50 MB of data for only $40, in comparison to spending approximately $600 with pay-per-use rates.

For even more peace of mind, customers can also take advantage of TELUS’ Travel Tracker – a web portal accessible while traveling outside of Canada via the smartphone’s web browser to help TELUS customers manage their data usage and costs in real-time. When a customer arrives in their destination country, they’ll receive a free text message with the link to the Travel Tracker portal.

Safe travels, everyone! I’ll be thinking of you while I’m sipping my mojito in the sun! ;-)
