What’s new on TV This Fall – September Edition

Dan Page and Michael J. Fox

Dan Page and Michael J. Fox

Back in May I had the pleasure to accompany the Canadian Broadcasters on a trip down to Los Angeles hopping from studio to studio, to screen all the pilots that have finally made it on air this Fall. Whether you’re watching on your big screen TV, mobile phone or tablet there is certainly lots to choose from so set your PVR’s and get ready for what I think is probably the best season of TV.

Sleepy Hollow – Monday @ 9PM on Global TV – Premier Date: September 16th

Starting off the new season on Monday Nights, Sleepy Hollow is a reimaged tale of the classic Ichabod Crane vs. The Headless Horseman tale. Ichabod is a Civial War Vetaran frozen in time but reemerges in 2013 in awe of the world around him on the hunt to destroy the headless horseman who is plaguing the town set to bring forth the apocalypse. Believe it or not but it actually works!

Brooklyn Nine-Nine – Tuesday @ 8:30PM on City – Premier Date: September 17th

Andy Samberg is back but this time instead of his 11:30pm Saturday timeslot on SNL or showing off his d**k in a box he has traded it all in for a badge. Out of all the new comedies I screened this is the one one to watch. We have yet to see humor this dumb and smart since 30 Rock.

Mom – Monday @ 8:30PM on City – Premier Date: September 23rd

Chuck Lorre (Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men) bring his raunchiest three camera sitcom to City TV. Starring Anna Faris who plays a single mom dating her boss while struggling to adjust to her new sober life and her overbearing pushy (not quite sober) mom played by the West Wings Alyson Janney. For some reason this actually works.

The Blacklist  – Monday @ 10PM on Global – Premier Date: September 23rd

James Spader stars in what is the most buzzed about drama this year. Spader plays Red Reddington, one of the FBI’s most wanted fugitives surrendering himself at the front of the show. He demands to be partnered with a rookie and as an act of good faith helps capture a known terrorist. In exchange for this he will hand over “The Blacklist” which will aid in the capture of the worlds notorious criminals both known and unknown.

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD – Tuesday @ 8PM on CTV – Premier Date: September 24th

This was one pilot that was under lock and key which was not screened in LA other than to CTV. I did however have the chance to watch it in August and it lives up to the hype. Who doesn’t love the Marvel Universe – post Avengers NYC. Enough said!

The Crazy Ones – Thursday @ 9PM on City – Premier Date: September 26th

Thursday is turning out to be the night where the past TV legends return. The Crazy Ones sees the return of Robyn Williams to the small screen as the owner of an advertising agency work side by side with his daughter played by Sarah Michelle Gellar. You will see a long list of cameos and in the pilot be prepared for McDonalds meets Kelly Clarkson.

The Michael J. Fox Show– Thursday @ 9PM on Global– Premier Date: September 26th

Going head to head against Robyn Williams is Michael J.Fox in The Michael J. Fox Show. Michael plays a stay at home dad in early retirement from being New Yorks #1 News Anchor because of his Parkinson’s disease but is being lured back to TV by his former boss and pushed out of his house by his loving family.

Betrayal -Sunday @ 10PM on City– Premier Date: September 29th

In the same tone as Revenge, Betrayal showcases conspiracy set amongst the backstage of high-society Chicago. The cast is beautiful and the story is hatched based on a love affair and a murder. All the cast has great chemistry and the direction is as stylish as any great drama on TV.
