Are you a TELUS customer that has used Jesta or MMS for premium text services like Mind Quiz and Joke a Day? You may be eligible for a rebate.
TELUS and the Competition Bureau have agreed to a rebate program for charges in connection with third-party premium text message providers which may have been placed on the bills of TELUS wireless customers between January 1, 2011 and August 16, 2013.
We will automatically issue rebates for existing TELUS customers who received certain charges by applying credits to their accounts within 60 days. The rebates will be a maximum of $10 for customers that were billed in connection with certain short codes related to Jesta, $5 for customers that were billed in connection with certain short codes related to MMS, and $15 for customers of both Jesta and MMS. All rebates are inclusive of all applicable taxes that may have been paid by the customer.
Former customers will be receiving a notice from TELUS with details as to their potential eligibility for a rebate and the process for claiming the rebate within 120 days.
We have had a number of measures in place such as opt-in confirmation and screen notifications during the time periods identified above to protect customers from unwanted premium text message charges, but have now stopped allowing commercial premium text message providers on our network altogether.
