The way I see it, TELUS Health is in the business of connecting systems, people and processes to achieve better health outcomes. Our team works in close collaboration with Canada’s healthcare community everyday… a community that includes not just pharmacists, physicians and clinicians, but also insurance companies, workers compensation boards, employers and their employees insured with private plans.
We all know that Canadian insurance companies process an astounding amount of paper-based claims every year. We know too that there is a better way, and that processing claims using paper causes additional mistakes and delays, which cost more at the end of the day. Well, I am pleased to say that TELUS Health is playing a leadership role in bringing more convenience and efficiency to the claims management process for both insurers and plan members.
Today, more than 16,000 physiotherapists, chiropractors, vision care providers, naturopathic doctors, massage therapists and acupuncturists offer TELUS Health eClaims, allowing plan members to benefit from direct billing at point of care. eClaims is forming a new basis of service for leading insurers large and small alike. Companies like Great-West Life, Standard Life, Desjardins Insurance, Manulife, Industrial Alliance and Sun Life Financial.
Johnson Inc, a leading third-party insurance provider, recently extended its point-of-care claims offer to also include allied healthcare professionals. We are pleased to be supporting them in simplifying processes, streamlining communications and facilitating the secure transfer of information for their plan members – the patients.
More than 85% of Canadians with private insurance health plans can take advantage of eClaims while visiting their healthcare providers to confirm plan coverage upfront, simplify claims submissions and reduce out-of-pocket expenses.
After three short years, TELUS Health is well on its way to becoming the provider of choice for managing eClaims. More than 50% of chiropractors and physiotherapists currently offer direct billing using our solution. Dentists and some 9000 pharmacies across Canada are also using our service. We have already processed drug claims on behalf of over 12 million Canadians, and that number continues to grow.
This isn’t the only way that TELUS Health is transforming healthcare, but it is one really important way, that I am sure will lead to even greater things ahead. It is also where I choose to spend my professional time and effort, every day.
